⚡ Related Meters – Supplier Rules & Submission Guide

🧾 What is a Related Meter?

A related meter (also known as a dual or linked MPAN) is when one electricity supply point has two MPANs — typically one for peak and one for off-peak consumption.
These are physically linked at the property and must always be treated as a single account.

You cannot switch one MPAN without the other; both must move to the same supplier at the same time.
If you attempt to switch only one, the current supplier will object and block the transfer.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

Brokers often assume “it’s just another MPAN” and submit a standard sale.
It isn’t — related meters have specific handling rules and different topline formats.

Ignoring that causes errors, cancellations, or automatic supplier rejections.

❌ Submitting only one MPAN
❌ Using mismatched suppliers
❌ Missing “Related Meter” note on the prep form
❌ Re-submitting when it fails without fixing the issue

✅ How to Check Before Submitting

You don’t need ECOES access — just check the customer’s latest bill.

Look for:

  • Two MPANs listed at the same address

  • Wording such as “Related Off-Peak Meter” or “Night Register”

  • Two line items for electricity usage (day/night or peak/off-peak)

If you see this, stop and confirm both MPANs and usage figures.
If you’re still unsure, raise a ticket before submitting — guessing will only waste attempts.

💡 Quick example:

MPAN 1: 1200031234567 (Main)
MPAN 2: 1200031234578 (Related / Off-Peak)

Both MPANs must be on the same prep form with a note:
“Related Meter – Dual MPAN”

🚫 Don’t Forget

If you raise a ticket asking which suppliers accept related meters, it will be auto-replied with a link to this article and closed immediately.
Repeated tickets of this type may lead to restricted support access.

💡 BOS Tip

Always quote both MPANs on the same prep form.
Incomplete or mismatched submissions will be rejected automatically.
Remember: related meters are paired supplies, not duplicates.
